Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. —Psalm 107:4-7
Even when we believe, we often wander in desert wastes, trying to find the path on which God wants us. Anyone who thinks that he controls and successfully builds his life is prideful. A Christian knows that it is the Lord that controls and builds lives and that the greatest need one has is dependence on God. When we depend fully on God, it is then that we develop a relationship with Him that helps us to find the path He has set for us. That is a result of faith!
We know that following the path is not easy. There will be twists, turns and obstacles. In places, the fog will be thick and obscure the way. There will be attractive diversions that we will want to take. The obstacles and difficulties refine and strengthen our spirits! If we ultimately follow the path, it is the single instance in which the end justifies the means! Find the pot of gold at the end of the path!
