Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. –James 5:7

Winter, the season of tomb-cold, is followed by the life-giving warmth and spirit-reviving beauty of spring. Thank you, Lord!

Spring is a beautiful season. It rains as the temperature warms, and soon stems spring forth from the ground and blossom into beautiful, colorful flowers; and buds form on tree branches and burst open revealing flowery blooms that color the land.

Showers of pain and despair then death from the cross grew flowers of Life among humankind.

It is fitting that Easter is in the spring, the season that lends its beauty to the most beautiful and meaningful event that has graced history. Each Easter Sunday we gaze at the flowered cross and understand that our sins were taken away by the death of Jesus on the cross, and that death did not prevail against Jesus, who lives and will return as King.

The cross is our sign that winter is over, that renewing of life has begun and that death has been defeated.
