The outreach committee is collecting items to send to deployed service men and women. The committee plans to ship the packages in time for receipt by Independence Day. That means the packages must be shipped by June 15.

Among the Items the committee wishes to include in the packages are the following:

DVD’s (new and used); lip balm; microwavable food (like popcorn, Chef Boyardee, stews);  pre-paid phone cards; small boxes of cereal; small packages of chicken or tuna; protein bars or powders; stand-alone air fresheners; pumpkin seeds; assorted nuts; Xbox games; PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games (new or used); Slim Jims; and iTune or Amazon cards.

These items are suggestions and the list is not meant to be exclusive; use your own imagination and help fill up these boxes for the military! Also, pray for their well being and safe return.

Today is National Day of Prayer.  Take some time today to thank God for something special in your life.  Remember loved ones and friends who may be in need of healing or help.  Lift up concerns and worries in your own life.  Whatever else you may do today, spend some time with the Lord.

We learned of the death May 1 of Horace Cowell Bennett, Sr., 89, of Grantsboro. We offer our prayers and condolences to his family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM May 4 at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Ray Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to one’s favorite charity or to the Grantsboro Cemetery Fund, 178 Old Bay River Road, Grantsboro, 28529.
