OPERATION VEGGIE BOX IS UNDERWAY! ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR 17 AUGUST.

vegetable garden 130805Last night the general board approved an experimental garden project. “Operation Veggie Box’s” mission is to “help solve the problem of hunger in Pamlico County by providing fresh produce and the good news of Jesus Christ to those in need.”

David Bailey will lead the project. Plans are to transplant 1,000 lettuce, napa, broccoli, kale and collard plants at a local site using volunteer Bethany labor. Planting will start August 24 and end 14 September. About 10 to 15 people will be needed during plantingĀ and during harvesting/packaging. The garden will need to be tended for 70 days with weeding and watering until maturity.

The goal is to distribute 100 boxes of produce. Once the produce is harvested, 2 November to 30 November, it will be packaged and distributed along with spiritual messages explaining how the love of Christ offers the ultimate help. After the fall garden, the project will be assessed. If successful, the project will be transitioned into a spring garden, and the scope of the project may be expanded.

An organizational meeting will take place in the fellowship hall at 10 A.M., Saturday, 17 August. Please come and take part in this unique project. It will be some hard work, but a lot of fun and fellowship. Other than that, your reward will be that you are doing something that God wants us to do, growing in Christ while growing for Christ!
