The August 4 general board meeting began with Chairman Mac Harris and Clerk Linda Watson donning funny glasses and with Harris wearing a red nose (taking a cue from the vision team’s earlier meeting). As Minister Merritt Watson lighted the Christ candle, he reminded the board that God is present despite the antics of the board chairman and clerk. Alluding to Harris’s absence at the elder’s early morning meeting, Julia Peterson surmised that Harris’s red nose is the explanation.
But the board soon got to the church’s serious work. It heard reports from its committees and organizations, approved an experimental garden project after hearing David Bailey’s well-organized presentation on the project, approved the establishment of a fund that will be used eventually to purchase a new church van, and considered incorporating into the columbarium project a prayer labyrinth. More detail on the general board meeting will be provided in the August issue of The Bethany Beacon, which will be published later this week.
This vignette is to provide a look into board meetings, which can be fun even while the serious work of the church is taking place. And Rev. Watson is right: God is present there. All are welcome at the board meetings, which occur on the first Sunday each month. Join us and see how the business of the church is conducted!
